Wyoming Business Entity Search

Search the state's official business records.

Wyoming's register is at wyobiz.wyo.gov, free and without an account. It grades a company's standing in more detail than any other state, and hides half its record behind panels that open only if you click them.

Five answers to "is it in good standing?"

Every other state gives a company one status. Wyoming gives it five, and they can disagree:

  • Status: Active
  • Sub Status: Current
  • Standing (Tax): Good
  • Standing (RA): Good
  • Standing (Other): Good

So you can see which obligation a company has fallen behind on (its tax, its registered agent, or something else) rather than only that it is not in good standing. A company can be Active with a Delinquent tax standing, and that is a different problem from one whose agent has resigned.

Better still, all five appear on every row of the results, not just on the record. You can read a page of search results and know who is behind on what without opening anything.

The state's own warning about what good standing means

Printed under the results, and worth quoting in full because almost no register says it:

The statement that a company is in "good standing" simply notifies the public that all paperwork or fees required to form or maintain registration has been filed with the Secretary of State and is current. "Good Standing" in no way implies endorsement of the business nor does it reflect on the quality of the products or services provided by the business.

If you are checking a company you are about to do business with, that is the sentence to remember. Good standing means the filings are up to date. Nothing more.

Change the match mode, then read the tips

The search starts on Starts With. Switch it to Contains if you are checking whether a name is taken.

Then take Wyoming's own advice. A note above the box points you at its Database Tips for guidance on searching a name for compliance with Wyoming statutes, the state telling you, before you start, that an unused name can still fail the distinguishability test. Most registers leave you to discover that after a rejection.

Trademarks come back in the same result set, marked (TM). One row on a search for Acme reads Acme (Word & Design of A Figure of A Stick Man Above the Word Acme).

The record hides most of itself

Open an entity and it looks complete: name, filing ID, type, initial filing date, term of duration, state formed in, principal office and mailing address, and the five status fields.

Four panels sit collapsed at the foot and they are where the substance is.

Additional Details carries the registered agent, the latest annual report number and year, whether the entity is exempt from reporting, and the license tax actually paid ($60.00 on the example record). We have not seen another state publish the amount a company paid rather than the amount the schedule says.

History lists each filing with a downloadable PDF. Free, which puts Wyoming with Ohio, Washington and Iowa rather than with Delaware.

Public Notes is usually empty and almost unique in existing at all.

Parties names the organizer, and this is the thing to understand about Wyoming. It does not name the members. On the example record the organizer is itself a company at a New York address, which is the pattern when a formation service files on somebody's behalf.

So the register tells you who filed the paperwork and who accepts service. It does not tell you who owns the business.

What the annual fee actually is

Wyoming is the only state we have verified where the recurring fee scales with assets rather than being flat or per-member.

The annual report costs the greater of $60.00 or two tenths of one mill on the dollar of assets located and employed in Wyoming. Most small LLCs pay the $60 floor and never think about it. A company holding significant Wyoming-situated assets pays considerably more.

It falls due on the first day of the anniversary month of formation, and an LLC that has not paid within sixty days of the due date is subject to dissolution.

Who decides

Wyoming tells you this itself, in the Database Tips: a name can be unused and still fail. The standard is set by the Wyoming Limited Liability Company Act, Wyo. Stat. Title 17, Chapter 29 (17-29-101 is the short title) and applied by the Business Division when it examines what you filed.

Before you rely on it

Read all five status fields. Active on its own does not mean current.

Expand the four panels. The record looks finished without them and it is not.

Do not assume Parties names the owners. It names the organizer.

Switch off Starts With, and read the Database Tips before you commit to a name.

Wyoming filing facts

Filing Fee
Articles of Organization, Continuance or Domestication $100.00
Certificate of Authority (foreign LLC) $150.00
Annual report greater of $60.00 or two tenths of one mill on Wyoming assets
Amendment or dissolution $60.00
Trade name reservation $30.00
Series LLC $10.00 per series designated or established
Reinstatement, for tax $100.00
Reinstatement, for no registered agent $350.00

Two of those are worth pausing on. A series LLC costs $10 per series, which is why Wyoming is a common choice for structures that need many. And reinstating a company that lost its registered agent costs $350 against $100 for a tax lapse: the state prices losing your agent as three and a half times worse than not paying.

For a state of its size the register is busy: 86,480 applications in the 52 weeks to 26 September 2026, 346 a business day, up 17.2%, ranking 22nd of 51.

What the register will not tell you

Wyoming has 8,028 live registered marks. A small pool, and one word towers over it:

word live marks times more common than nationally
wyoming 170 503x
arm 125 81x
hammer 125 67x
jackson 117 65x
mountain 178 15x
coffee 135 6x
life 155 2x

Wyoming at 503 times the national rate is the steepest concentration of any single word we have measured in any state, steeper than Hawaii's hawaii at 438x or Nebraska's omaha at 341x. In a register of eight thousand marks, one hundred and seventy of them contain the state's own name.

Jackson at 65x is the other place name, and it reflects what Jackson Hole means as a brand rather than the town's size.

The filing pattern is the strange part. Sheridan accounts for 35.6% of Wyoming's marks and Cheyenne 22.8%. Sheridan is a town of under twenty thousand people. It is also where a good deal of Wyoming's registered-agent industry sits; the example record on this page lists an agent at a Sheridan address. Draw your own conclusion about what a mark filed from Sheridan tells you about where the business actually is.

What the Wyoming portal looks like

Captured from the live register. Personal names and addresses are blacked out; everything else is as the state publishes it.

Wyoming Secretary of State business services

Business registrations in Wyoming are held by the Wyoming Secretary of State, which maintains the public register this page searches, accepts new filings, and issues the certificates a bank or a counterparty may ask you for. Contact them directly for anything that has to be official.

Common questions about Wyoming business entity searches

How do I check if an LLC exists in Wyoming?

Search the name on this page or on the state's own portal. What Wyoming does by default is worth knowing before you read the result: starts With. A match means the entity is on file, and its status line tells you whether it is still active.

How do I verify a company is registered in Wyoming?

Search the name, then open the record rather than reading the results line. Name, Filing ID, Type, Initial Filing date, Term of Duration, state Formed In, Fictitious Name where one exists, Principal Office and Mailing Address, plus the five status fields above. The status on the record is the one to trust: a dissolved company still appears in a search and still holds its name.

Does a clear search mean my Wyoming business name is approved?

Not on its own. A no-match result means the name is not on the Wyoming register today, which is a preliminary answer rather than approval: Wyoming Secretary of State decides when it reviews the filing. Worth knowing about Wyoming in particular: the match starts on Starts With, so switch it. Then take Wyoming's own advice and read the tips: a name can be unused and still fail the statute on distinguishability.

Can I look up who owns a business in Wyoming?

Wyoming names the organiser, not the members. The Parties panel on the example record shows a single entry, (Organizer), and it is a company rather than a person. So the register tells you who filed the paperwork and who accepts service, and does not tell you who owns the business.

How much does it cost to register a business name in Wyoming?

Wyoming Secretary of State charges $100 to file the Articles of Organization, Continuance or Domestication, which is the document that forms the company, and is processed up to 15 business days. Reserving a name beforehand is a separate and smaller fee. Confirm the figure with the state before you file: schedules move.
